For the third year in a row, we teamed up with Arapahoe Basin to celebrate Earth Day with our SmartWool for Smart Riders carpool event. And what better way to celebrate than a small spring storm opening up into a blue bird day.

Since our friend Mother Nature delivered for us, we had to return the favor. We encouraged skiers and riders to carpool, helping reduce emissions associated with traveling to the mountain. Each packed car received goodie bags with SmartWool socks, a raffle ticket for the après party, and some Clif Bars to fuel them on the mountain.

We then moved up the hill to the base area to join in on the Earth Day scavenger hunt. Skiers and riders explored the mountain in search of Arapahoe Basin’s sustainability efforts, learning everything from how they can reduce their energy usage to their recycling and composting policies. Thank you A-Basin for your sustainability initiatives!

The POW tent was, of course, a destination during the scavenger hunt. Earth Day encourages people to take action on their own, so we figured what better way to engage these individuals than through the POW Seven. After all, if our federal government isn’t going to lead the fight for us, then we need to take winter into our own hands and lead as a community.

We wrapped up Earth Day the same way we do any other day on the slopes, with après. The après party sparked conversations around the upcoming People’s Climate March and how important it is, again, to take action as an individual. And to end the day on a high note, we raffled off some POW gear, SmartWool base layers, a Yakima ski rack, a Never Summer Snowboard, and Icelantic Skis.

Thank you to SmartWoolYakima, and Clif Bar for providing us with some goodies and thank you to Arapahoe Basin for helping pull together the Icelantic SkisNever Summer Snowboard, and the Earth Day Event!
