Footprints Running
A running camp by Dakota Jones
Footprints Running catalyzes trail runners for influential climate action by directly providing the education, skills and support they need to turn their dreams into reality. The week-long camps build leaders for climate action by both supporting and challenging campers in order to help them create effective climate action projects born from their unique skills and passions.
Runners apply to the program by presenting a problem in their community that they want to fix. The projects with the most opportunity for impact are invited to spend a week in the San Juan mountains of Southwest Colorado. Each camper is paired with a mentor who is an expert in a field relating directly to that camper’s project. Campers run in the mountains each morning, and spend the afternoons working with their mentors on their projects. By the end of the week, the campers will have a clear business or project plan with a process to turn their project into a means of collective action in their community.
