Fiona O’keeffe
Professional Distance Runner
Fiona is a professional distance runner for the Puma Elite team based in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. She splits time between the Raleigh area and various altitude training locations, ranging from Albuquerque to Mammoth Lakes, CA. In her first marathon, Fiona recently won the US Olympic Marathon Trials in Orlando, becoming the youngest winner of the event and setting a trials record with her time of 2:22:10. This run qualifies her for the Olympic Games in Paris this summer. Fiona competes at distances from the 5000m on the track up to the marathon on the roads. She earned a B.S. in Earth Systems with a concentration on the Biosphere track of the major from Stanford University, graduating in 2020. Following a short stint at the University of New Mexico where she worked on research in desert ecosystems, she left the NCAA to pursue her dream of running professionally. She grew up in the Sacramento area, spending lots of time outdoors in the Sierra and along the American River bike trail, and attended Davis Senior High School. She is passionate about protecting natural areas for generations to come and increasing public awareness around climate change in the running community
