Origins
Origins
Wildfire is erasing over 5000 miles of trail every year in the U.S. With the response by the government being to erase those trails from maps rather than fund their restoration, this project is about those trails and the histories behind them.
This series is about trails lost to time, wildfire and budget cuts. Not only is Origins a series about lost trails, it is a series about trail stewardship, history, climate change and the need for outdoor sports to respect the culture of those who built and traveled these trails long before us. From Indigenous stories to breadcrumbs of California’s extensive modern history, this series is a chance to present a story about more than just an individual doing cool stuff, but about presenting a new perspective to the outdoor industry’s use of public lands as a whole.
