Alex Lee
Environmental Philosopher
Alex Lee is a writer, skier, climber, gardener, wanderer of wild places, fisherman, dog walker, and environmental philosopher. Alex studies moral obligations and environmental problem solving as Associate Professor of Philosophy at the Institute of Culture and Environment at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, Alaska. He earned his Ph.D. in environmental ethics from the University of Colorado, Boulder and has worked as a naturalist, guide, and teacher in Alaska for over a decade. His research focuses on applied environmental philosophy and conservation policy; he is specifically interested in the ethics of environmental change. In addition to academic work in environmental ethics, climate change, conservation, and wildness, Alex has contributed opinions and essays on public philosophy to the Anchorage Daily News, Grist, High Country News, the Revelator, Mother Nature Network, and beyond. When not in a classroom or punching a keyboard, Alex can usually be found in the mountains. He is an avid ski mountaineer and backcountry advocate; he has contributed over 40 guest posts to WildSnow and written pieces for Powder Magazine and the Ski Journal.
